After a 20-year long stretch as the President of Albania, Bilbi Kolcei has announced that he will retire of politics after being diagnosed with "stage 3 alzheimers". He will serve for the rest of his term until it ends in September where a new candidate will take his place. Whoever replaces Kolcei will be filling some big shoes and will likely instigate multiple reforms in order to open up the economy and promote international cooperation, two things Kolcei had trouble establishing due to his isolationist stances. However, Kolcei will be missed for his ability to create national unity among Albanians and for his critiques of Yugoslavia's past uneven relationships with the rest of Eastern Europe.
